Burden Stitch

Burden Stitch Diagram

Step 1: Make long horizontal Straight Stitches across the width of the shape to be filled. These stitches should be evenly spaced. It is ok if they seem a little wobbly going over a long distance. This wobbliness will be corrected in the other steps.

Step 2: Make short vertical stitches over the horizontal stitches to hold them into place. Alternate the rows when stitching. The tack stitches should be equally sized.

Step 3: On the return pass, make the same type of vertical stitches on the rows that were not previously tacked down. The spacing of the vertical columns of stitches should be consistent. Continue in this pattern to completely fill the region.
